"Anta, baka?!?" ("What are you, stupid?!?") Age: 14 Occupation: Student NERV Designation: Second Child First Appearance: Episode 8 ["Asuka Comes to Japan"/"Asuka Strikes!"] Asuka is of German and Japanese descent, but is an American citizen. Unlike Shinji and Rei, Asuka is openly enthusiastic of her occupation as an EVA pilot. This enthusiasm is paralleled only by her arrogance and competitiveness; she never accepts being second best. Because of this, she is extremely jealous of Shinji and often teases and belittles him. This drive to be the best is fueled by a dark episode in her past which she refuses to share with anyone.
