Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel
GAINAX, 1997 For Windows 95/Macintosh, Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn (Japanese import only) Quite frankly, I don't know what the fuss is all about with this game, other than the exclusive character Mana Kirishima (voiced by Megumi Hayashibara). I mean, it's labeled as an adventure game, but there's absolutely no action. Girlfriend of Steel (a.k.a. Iron Maiden) is merely an interactive story program that uses only still shots and voices of the cast members. You don't do much here. All you do is read the dialogue and choose among the given options. If you play this game continuously, you'll finish it in 2 1/2 hours. Talk about dragging. And to believe this game won some awards in Japan... Rating: ** |
Super Robot Wars F
Winky Soft/Banpresto, 1998
For Sony PlayStation
(Japanese import only)
The latest sequel of the ever-popular Super Robot Wars strategy/RPG series on the PS features all of the EVA units and Angels along with GAINAX's own giant robot Gunbuster. Despite having SD art and simplistic graphics, Super Robot Wars F is strangely addictive, especially if you're a Gundam or Mazinger buff. Adding to the fun is a Karaoke mode, where you can sing along with popular theme songs like "Cruel Angel's Thesis" (EVA), "Fly High!" (Gunbuster) and "Just Communication" (Gundam Wing).
